EMS, Fire, and Revenue Recovery Sessions at Wave 2019
Take a Sneak Peek at What's Coming
Nearly 500 health and safety leaders have already registered to join us at Wave 2019. If you are one of them, then we cannot wait to see you in Austin! If you aren’t one of them… well there is no time like the present to change that!
One of the questions we are most often asked is “What EXACTLY will be discussed at Wave?”. And while we can’t tell you everything, both because we value a couple in-the-moment revelations and because some of it will be so brand new it is still in development, we do have a few sessions we can sneak peek for you. To whet your whistle, here are three sessions that will be occurring at Wave 2019 in March.
If Everyone Hired an Analyst, Would You?
Track: Fire Data Management
Speaker: Matt Hinds-Aldrich, PhD, Program Manager, Data and Analytics, NFPA
A growing number of fire departments are hiring analysts (or teams of analysts) to manage their fire department accreditation, performance management, community risk reduction, and continuous quality improvement efforts. While this trend has been rapidly growing there are a number of challenges in terms of recruiting, managing, and retaining analysts within fire departments that need to be addressed before they can be fully embraced. This session will highlight some of the challenges that have been identified and some of the solutions that are in the works.
Examining Adoption of Video Laryngoscopy using ESO EMS Data
Track: EMS Best Practices
Speaker: Dr. Hezedean Smith, CFO, CEMSO, CPM, MIFirE, PMD, Assistant Chief, Orlando Fire Department
Learn how data drives the adoption of new programs and protocols within a fire-based EMS system. We’ll discuss how to export, validate and conduct analysis on data to determine whether or not video laryngoscopy is beneficial within an EMS system. You’ll leave with a better understanding of how to maximize access to ESO’s database, understand the role of quality in analysis and identify opportunities for applying the methods discussed within your own system.
Five Things You Can Do Now to Prevent a Future False Claims Case
Track: Billing & Revenue Recovery
Speaker: Doug Wolfberg

Federal and state enforcement agencies are taking an ever-closer look at EMS agencies, and after a federal false claims act case has been filed it’s too late to fine-tune your agency’s compliance. This session will look at strategies you can Implement now that will pay dividends in the future if you are ever on the receiving end of a false claims lawsuit or investigation.
