2024 ESO Trauma Index

Insights and Best Practices for Trauma Centers and Trauma Systems

The 2024 ESO Trauma Index is designed to be a point of reference for hospitals and trauma systems who want to identify where they align with other organizations throughout the U.S. and where they can improve. Based on de-identified data from 975,433 trauma patient records collected between January 1 and December 31, 2023, the Index offers a comprehensive view of national trends in trauma care.

Use the 2024 ESO Trauma Index to help answer critical questions such as:

  • How many of our trauma patients need a blood transfusion? What percent receive whole blood?
  • How long does it take to administer antibiotics to trauma patients with open long bone fractures?
  • How often do we experience key hospital events? Is that number going up or down?
  • How frequently are trauma patients reporting interpersonal violence?
  • How many of our trauma patients need a blood transfusion? What percent receive whole blood?
  • Is my organization aligned with others nationally when it comes to patient care measures?

Are you ready to compare your trauma system to the latest national benchmarks and discover actionable insights?

Hear How the ESO Trauma Index Makes a Difference

“The Trauma Index is life and breath to me because it gives me what I didn’t have before: real data from across the country of like facilities – data that I can truly compare myself to.”

– Roberta Berry, Trauma Nurse and Program Manager, Gila Regional Medical Center, Silver City, New Mexico

Roberta Berry, Trauma Program Manager at Gila Regional Medical Center – a Level IV Trauma Center in New Mexico – shares how the ESO Trauma Index has become an invaluable tool for her team.

By providing benchmarks that aren’t available for her center’s level anywhere else, the Index allows Berry to use real data to improve patient outcomes and collaborate with other trauma centers in her state.
