How You’ll Support Our Mission

Our Registry team in Belfast owns the development of a greenfield application used by hospitals to record a patient's journey and provide life-changing insights to healthcare improvements.
 
We are augmenting one of the teams with a Frontend Developer. You will be responsible for building scalable, testable, and accessible Angular UI screens that communicate via APIs built upon the latest cloud technologies. You will help us to evaluate and drive our front-end offering, looking at new trends and helping us to stay secure. Our engineering teams leverage modern, cloud-based serverless architectural patterns as well as the latest CI/CD DevOps tooling and processes. 
 
Our application uses Angular with SCSS and Jasmine and Karma for unit testing. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to an engineering-wide shared component library (using PrimeNG), which is used by many teams at ESO to allow for knowledge share and consistency across apps.
 
You will have the chance to join a growing and passionate team, working on critical products, whilst being supported with training opportunities and being mentored by one of Belfast’s leading UI Engineers. There will also be an opportunity to join our engineering-wide Frontend guild, aimed at discussing the latest trends, sharing knowledge, and bringing that back to the Registry space.  Joining our team will be an amazing and truly rewarding experience. 

The Belfast Registry team have full autonomy over all applications, from implementation right through to delivery into production. You will be part of the Product Engineering team, reporting to the Development Manager. 

What You’ll Be Doing – the day to day

  • Be a core part of our engineering team, with tangible impact on a range of applications that we build.  
  • Push the envelope on the aesthetic quality of the experiences we provide.  
  • Mentor other develops who aspire to grow their front-end knowledge. 
  • Work collaboratively cross-team, to impart your expertise across the organisation. 

Who You Are - some of the essential things required to be successful in the role: 

  • At least three years’ experience in software engineering developing highly reactive user experiences.
  • Angular/React/Typescript (or similar UI framework).
  • Unit testing and mocking frameworks.
  • Git for source control.

You should also; 

  • Be well-versed in Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment practices.  
  • Have an understanding of testing philosophy (e.g. the test pyramid).  
  • Have a passion for what you do and understanding how your work impacts ESO’s success.


Who You Are – it’s desirable if you have any of the following: 

  • Exposure to Microservice architectures 
  • Exposure to Cloud Platforms (Azure / AWS / GCP) 
  • Working understanding of WCAG 2.0 and above.
  • Semantic HTML before using ARIA, if such an element exists.  
  • Knowledge of and ability to use WAI-ARIA where necessary and mimicking (the equivalent) browser behaviour in script.
