About ESO / Our Mission

ESO builds software that helps communities respond to emergencies and protect people and property. Our mission is to improve outcomes for responders and the public by delivering reliable, secure, and scalable products that support critical work—when minutes matter and failure isn’t an option.

How We Work at ESO

Our work is guided by ESO’s core values: Teamwork, Passion, Flexibility, and Integrity. We collaborate across teams to solve meaningful problems, bring care and energy to building products that serve first responders, adapt thoughtfully as our organization and technology evolve, and act with honesty and accountability—especially when decisions involve difficult tradeoffs.

Azure-Based Technology Stack

  • Angular-based web applications backed by .NET Core services
  • Microservices hosted on Azure App Service and Azure Function Apps
  • Azure Service Bus for messaging and Azure Blob Storage for object storage
  • Entity Framework Core with Azure SQL Database

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on initiatives that span multiple teams, fostering shared ownership, collaboration, and alignment while delivering on your direct team’s goals
  • Make fundamental architectural decisions at a departmental level, clearly communicating tradeoffs, risks, and rationale, and acting thoughtfully and decisively in critical situations
  • Own and influence long-term architectural direction at a departmental level, balancing maintainability, performance, security, and delivery
  • Identify business‑critical technical problems, determine root cause efficiently, assess cross‑team impacts, and lead implementation of durable solutions
  • Lead the resolution of major incidents with urgency and ownership, and drive systemic improvements to observability, resiliency, and risk reduction to prevent recurrence
  • Influence technical direction and standards within and across teams, leading cross-functional collaboration and building alignment around technical strategy and customer impact
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships, resolve disagreements respectfully, and break down silos—disagree and commit when needed to move priorities forward
  • Partner with product, engineering, and operations leaders to prioritize work, clarify tradeoffs, and drive initiatives forward
  • Coach and mentor engineers (especially those advancing to Senior and Staff) by facilitating design reviews, technical discussions, demos, and strong documentation practices

The Essentials of Being Successful in This Role

  • 10+ years of deep expertise building, operating, and evolving production systems in .NET Core
  • 5+ years hands-on with Azure services (App Service, Functions, Service Bus, Blob Storage, Azure SQL)
  • Design solutions within and across applications, adapting as requirements and constraints evolve, and producing high-quality design documentation
  • Use Domain‑Driven Design and sound architectural patterns to model complex domains
  • Build and operate event‑driven, distributed systems using APIs and messaging for service-to-service communication
  • Proficiency with modern source control and collaboration workflows (e.g., GitHub, Bitbucket)
  • Strong understanding of automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and pragmatic quality practices in production environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence teams and disciplines
  • A demonstrated ownership mindset, with a proactive approach to identifying risks, driving alignment, and delivering outcomes

The Desirables (It’s a Plus if You Have)

  • Applied Generative AI or spec‑driven development techniques in software delivery
  • Exposure to large‑scale messaging, streaming, or data processing systems (e.g., Event Hubs, Airflow, Kafka)
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms and analytics architectures (e.g., Snowflake)
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.0+
  • Worked with experimentation, metrics, or data-informed decision-making

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.
