Hartford HealthCare Connects Emergency Departments, EMS Agencies to Improve Communication and Outcomes

ESO Health Data Exchange software platform provides data interoperability between Emergency Departments and EMS agencies to increase clinical insights and operational efficiency

September 5, 2018 – HARTFORD, Conn – ESO, the leading data and software company serving emergency medical services (EMS), fire departments and hospitals, announced today that Hartford HealthCare has chosen ESO Health Data Exchange (HDE) as its emergency department software platform to receive incoming patient data from area EMS agencies. Health Data Exchange will be implemented in all six Hartford HealthCare hospitals.

“This is a great solution for us,” said Kevin Ferrarotti, System Director, EMS Network Development. “The interoperability of the platform quickly and easily connects EMS agencies and our hospitals in near real time to deliver discrete, actionable data to receiving facilities and returns demographic, billing and clinical outcome data to EMS. While the communication will help significantly improve operational efficiency, more importantly it will help improve the clinical acumen of our EMS providers.”

Hartford HealthCare is currently implementing the platform, which is expected to be live and available to all hospitals by mid-December.

Benefits for Hartford HealthCare include:

  • First-of-its kind interoperability platform to share relevant data and information between EMS agencies and hospital emergency departments in an effort to improve patient outcomes
  • Quick and easy access to patient data from EMS patient care record for emergency department personnel to make appropriate adjustments around treatment
  • Improved operational efficiency by automating sharing of records and information and removing roadblocks and barriers in place due to manual processes
  • Ability to share outcomes data with EMS agencies to help improve clinical acumen in the field
  • Improved relationships with area EMS agencies through open communication and sharing of data

“Hartford HealthCare is taking a leadership role in its effort to provide the best possible healthcare in the community it serves,” said Allen Johnson, Vice President of ESO Healthcare. “They are one of the first in the region to adopt a cutting-edge technology platform that will provide important and relevant data and insights that can positively impact patient outcomes and clinical acumen.”
