True data interoperability is here.

ESO helps hospitals tap into the power of bidirectional data sharing with EMS. Perform comparative analysis of hospital and EMS data, increase operational efficiency, measure and improve patient outcomes, plus much more.

Health Data Exchange

Bridge the interoperability gap between EMS and hospitals. HDE provides a secure, auditable method of data sharing to support operational and quality process needs.

Understand your data like never before. Whether you’re an expert or a novice, Analytics gives you instant, flexible access to data for all levels of reporting.

How-to’s, Case Studies & Success Stories

Fire and Hospital Collaboration to Share Data

The Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department in Atascocita, Texas, collaborates closely with Kingwood Medical Center to share healthcare data to improve the quality of both prehospital and hospital care. Their efforts demonstrate how patients can benefit when members of the healthcare continuum partner to use technology and information to drive improvement efforts.

Outcome Measures Case Study

Outcome measures are an important part of EMS Compass, and NEMSIS version 3 has the capability to make these measures readily available to every agency, large and small. We talked to Jeffrey L. Jarvis, MD, MS, EMT-P, to see how some agencies are using outcome measures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is HDE?

HDE is a Platform-as-a-Service interoperability solution designed to connect to different clinical data sources for the purposes of supporting continuity of care, clinical quality improvement activities, EMS reimbursement activities and related business intelligence.

Is this client server or cloud based?

There is no hardware or software to install at the facility or EMS agencies. Most connections and data extracts can be accomplished with existing resources within the participating entities.

How secure is the data warehoused by ESO?

ESO contracts with Microsoft Azure to provide secure Tier 1 data storage services.

Who provides technical support?

Because HDE connects unrelated systems, HDE support is a team effort coordinated by the ESO team. ESO’s integration tools monitor the traffic through each connection. If an issue is detected, ESO support personnel work with the appropriate technical resources to resolve the issue.

Is it really bidirectional?

Yes, ESO offers true bi-directional data sharing between various electronic health record systems. Initially designed to connect EMS and hospitals, HDE is capable of connecting referring facilities, transitional care, MIH providers, public health and more.

How is HDE used in the hospital?

Once connected, hospitals can connect with EMS runsheet to the facility EHR. This allows clinicians and data abstractors easy access to the EMS record. ESO also offers Patient Tracker. This web-based application enables hospitals to search for individual or groups of patients based on transporting agency, primary impression, diagnosis and many others.
