The Transformative Power of Good Data

The EMS industry is bombarded with incredible amounts of information on a regular basis in the form of ePCR reports and dispatch data. While having a large, aggregated patient data set can be an incredible tool, it is only as good as its quality, which can be very difficult to obtain when you’re busy saving someone’s life.

To ensure agencies maintain consistent NEMSIS-compliant data, they must focus on standardizing their collection process in a way that takes the burden off the team. Robust reporting software is a great way to do just that.

1. Focus on measurements that are relevant to where you want to enact change.

3. Ensure your measurable numbers are in a field that can be queried.
4. Make it easy for personnel to gather, use, and share data within your agency and externally with partners, hospitals, and public health departments.
5. Package and present ePCR data to decision-makers and officials. Concrete data–especially when displayed in a visual, easy-to-digest way–allows agencies to quickly show operational efficiencies and needs, making it easier to ask for everything from bigger budgets to increased staffing. It also gives insight into decision-making, sharing not just how many patients were helped, but how they were treated, why that care was provided, and the impact of those decisions.

EMS data has the power to provide deeper insights into everything from patient outcomes, process improvements, operational efficiencies, community needs, and crew resource management–so agencies can share overall impact while transforming community care.
